Not a Happy Camper Right Now
October 16th, 2007
I don’t know how many people out there are lacrosse fans, let alone fans of the NLL, but today is a sad day. The 2008 season has been “officially” cancelled by the NLL according to their website. Be forewarned though, that article is bush league at best.
Normally, when it comes to professional sports I’m more inclined to side with the governing body (e.g., NHL, NFL, etc.) as opposed to the players. This is usually because the players are already paid gobs of money and they seemingly are just looking for more. Obviously if I have more information my opinion is more fair.
In the case of the NLL dispute, based on what I’ve heard and read so far, I’m squarely on the side of the PLPA. The NLL is totally blasting the PLPA all over the place and the last seven posts on NLL.com are all about how the season is going to be cancelled.
I voiced some thoughts on the negotiations, as well as some thoughts on the cancellation of the season over on my other blog.
The PLPA has been playing the silent game — which makes them appear much more adult & serious in this situation — but that doesn’t really help the public opinion with everything the NLL is putting out there. Hopefully in the coming days I’ll be able to get some more solid information on what exactly the League was looking for and what the PLPA was looking for.
Until then I remain pissed off at both sides.
