Getting healthy: The first two weeks
February 12th, 2008
After not working out for several months I forgot how hard it is. It could go without saying but I’m going to say it anyway, the first week absolutely kicked my ass! The sensation of feeling muscles I forgot I have took some getting used to, but I’m starting to like it.
Now that the actual working out part is getting a little easier — the weight isn’t easy, just the decision to go to the gym is — the big hurdle seems to be waking up on time. With an hour long commute to work, and my preference of working out in the morning, it’s important for me to get up early and give myself enough time to workout, shower, eat, and get to work. Given all that my goal is to get up around 6:15am. After two weeks of setting the alarm for that time it’s still a challenge every day. This is something I need to work on.
Overall I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made thus far. I had a few slips during the first week, where I had some “treats” when I probably shouldn’t have, but it’s getting much easier as time goes on. I’ve also decided to stick pretty closely to my meal plan on Sunday — which is my free day to eat whatever I want.
Concerning the weekly measurements, I think I’m going to hold off this time around. I will say that if my initial measurements were correct I’ve lost approximately 30% body fat. That seems like a large number after two weeks so I’m somewhat skeptical I measured myself properly. Regardless, I’m just going to roll with it since I’m feeling a lot better now than I was then.

I can relate to no wanting to get up earlier … I’m about as far from a morning person as one can get. But it sounds like you’re doing well.
I discovered your site from Colin’s - which has inspired me to sign on to “The-Diet”
Keep it up.

Thanks for stopping by David, and thanks for the words of encouragement. Glad you decided to join our little group. I’m looking forward to see how your journey goes.

I tried that and failed miserably. Was in a similar boat. well over an hour commute to work, so how do I get all that done in the morning? I’ve currently shifted to evening exercise - or worse - none at all.
