Getting healthy: The beginning

November 7th, 2006

As you may have noticed, these little updates are coming in a lot less often as of late. Sure, that could be due to my procrastination or even a lack of motivation but my excuse, on this blog at least, has been that it’s due to the fluctuations in my life right now. I think I’m finally ready to admit that it was more-so the procrastination and lack of motivation that’s been stalling my progress for getting healthier.

In an attempt to change all of that I want to repurpose this style of update on my site. Instead of focusing on how much weight I’m losing or how much I’ve lost, I’m going to focus on making my life a healthier one. The word diet has such a stigma attached to it and most of the time it gives people such a negative connotation, myself included.

Each time I’ve thought to myself over the past weeks that I need to check in on my diet it’s always sounded like there is so much work involved. Now, in order to change my mindset and focus on the positive aspects of maintaining a healthier lifestyle I’ve even changed the titles of this series, instead of “The Diet” it is now called “Getting healthy”.

On my last check in I was around the weight that I was going for, 174lbs. This doesn’t mean I’m where I want to be as far as my body image goes though. For that goal to be reached it’s time for some dedication. Here’s a list of my new goals for a healthier lifestyle go, hopefully by writing them down somewhere it’ll help my motivation:

  • hit the gym at least 3 times a week on a very regular basis
  • find and stick to a workout program
  • make healthier choices at mealtime with one day for “treats”
  • control my urges to procrastinate
  • quit being such a hermit

Well, there you have it, my goals for the next phase of my life. I threw in the hermit one because I’ve been known, as hard as it is to believe, to spend amazing amounts of time in front of my computer. It’s definitely time to change all that.

In order to chart my progress for this portion of my health journey I’m going to use body measurements instead of weight, since we all know muscle weighs more than fat. My current measurements are (no laughing):

  • Neck: 15.5″
  • Chest: 39.5″
  • Arms (around): 11.5″
  • Stomache: 37.25″
  • Waist: 36″
  • Thigh: 20.25″
  • Calves: 14.5″

Thats great Mike, I wish you the best in your quest for a healthy lifestyle. I myself have been involved in a fitness lifestyle for about 4 years now.

Its very true unfortunately, that people associate the word diet with something negative. In reality ones diet is simply a meal plan, good or bad. I’m currently taking a course to get my Personal Training Certification. If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message, as I have access to a huge abundance of knowledge through the organization of which I am obtaining my certification through.

Thanks Shaun. I remember seeing that you’re working on your Personal Training Certification on your site last time I was there. Look for an email from me in your inbox soon. ;^)
