Yet Another iPhone Typing Tip
July 9th, 2007
So, the latest tip on how to quickly type periods or other punctuation from David Pogue has been making the rounds. It’s a neat little trick and definitely a time saver for a lot of people. To be honest though, I haven’t really used it that much, I’ve discovered a little something that doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of press.
What some people may not realize is that once you’re finished typing your punctuation, when you hit the space bar the keyboard automatically changes back to the “ABC†layout. To me this seems like a faster way of typing, at least for how I use the keyboard. It’s pretty intuative really, way to go Apple.
Of course, for Pogue’s example of typing a P.O. Box address in the U.S.A. his tip will prove to work a lot better than this one. For everyday writing, in notes, emails, or SMS the space bar comes after basically all punctuation so it’s just a matter of preference really.

I got to try my first iPhone this afternoon. Me want, but of course Texas is a no-iPhone zone right now. Guess I will have to wait til I get home and drive to Buffalo where apprently they have lots.

Eliza: :))
Scott: No iPhones in Texas?! Dang, that sucks. If you’ve been following the internet news at all apparently Best Buy is advertising the iPhone in Canada. Seems like premature speculation to me but at least you’d have one ;)

I wish I could just simply turn off auto correction and suggestions and helper words etc. It somewhat teaches you to be sloppy, and then you rely on that, and it often messes up words that I want spelled certain ways. In the end, I think it’s worth having all my typos in there.

Haha! Microsoft Word does the same thing with auto correction and auto capitalization, though I’m not really sure if that helps or hinders your argument. It’s too bad you don’t like the auto correction or suggestions, I haven’t had that many issues with it (though it’s not perfect).
