The Diet: Week 6 weigh in
July 11th, 2006
Not too much can be said about this week of the diet. Since my brain doesn’t really seem to be working I’ll do my best to recall what I can of week number 6.
First thing that comes to mind is that even though my eating habits have changed due to the morning and afternoon shakes, I found that I missed a few meals throughout this week. I’m not really sure how that happens, especially since I was so used to the actual act of eating but it has. Maybe the replacement of food with a supplement has made it easier to dismiss a meal in my mind. Either way it’s not a good thing to have happening.
On the physical activity front, I’m still being a lazy bastard. I don’t know why because I enjoy going out and playing frisbee, golf, soccer/football/futball and various other recreation sports. Most likely it’s because a lot of my close friends that I used to be willing to have a pickup game have all left town.
Finally, I broke down this week — or was it last week — and bought a bucket of ice cream as an occasional treat for myself. While I didn’t pig out on it every day it was a very large temptation and it probably hindered any further loss I would have made otherwise. The heavily soaked popcorn on Sunday night while I was watching Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest probably didn’t help all that much when it was combined with the slightly less soaked — but still soaked — homemade popcorn I had on Friday night.
And now, this weeks stats:
- Weight: 180.2 lb.
- Belly inches: 35.75″
- BMI (according to halls.md): 25.9 kg/m2
That’s a total of 0.8 lb. lost, 0.25 inch gained and 0.1 kg/m2 of fat lost in the sixth week.
Here are the grand totals for the entire diet so far:
- Weight loss: 4.6 lb.
- Inches lost: 2.25″
- BMI drop (according to halls.md): 0.6 kg/m2

I was actually wondering about popcorn because I heard it’s a fairly healthy treat. I guess it isn’t as good for you with butter on it though.
I had some last week without butter and it was surprisingly good, but I get the feeling it may have had some kind of butter flavoring on it. Think that’s as bad as actual butter?

I used butter on the homemade popcorn because my roommates dad bought about 18 pounds of it and left most of it here. At the theater I always get Becel margarine instead, even though it’s only marginally better than butter.
I doubt the butter flavouring is anywhere near as “bad” for you as actual butter is. As far as how healthy popcorn really is, I’m not sure but it would be interesting to know.

Dude, a bucket of ice cream? Not just a pint to munch on one time but a gallon to munch on throughout the week. Man, I couldn’t do that, I’d eat the whole ~1500 calories worth

Well, it wasn’t a large bucket but it lasted quite a few days between my roommate and myself. It was pretty tough to not have it all the time every day though.

Set backs happen, you’re still moving forward, stick with it!
Popcorn plain is fine, butter, butter flavoring anf margerine are bad. Get some all natural butter buds to sprinkle on the popcorn, it tastes like buttered popcorn, but no cholest. or Fat.
You’re doing great keep it up! You’ll reach you’re goals!

Good to know about the popcorn. I still have to try out that soy cheese you like so much James. Thanks for the encouragement.
