The Diet: Week 4 weigh in

June 27th, 2006

Another week gone by, another weigh in. This also happens to be the mile marker for our first full month of being on the diet. There has been an overwhelming response to what started out as a simple challenge between some friends.

Almost every day I’m motivated by people like James and Ana. It doesn’t matter what they lose or gain each week/day/month but the constant drive they have to reach their goals is an inspiration to me.

Enough of that sappy crap, now it’s time to talk about me—I mean, this is my blog right? Week four proved to be another challenging week for yours truly. My dad was in town because the evil giant sent him up to get one of their trucks repaired.

To keep the story short, my dad had an expense card and the repair shop took about double the time they said they would fixing up his truck. So, with expense card in hand, we hit up The Olive Garden, The Cheesecake Cafe and Julio’s Barrio—a local mexican restaurant.

The cons of my dad’s visit were obviously all the eating out. The pro’s were that I was finally able to test my will power against some truly magnificent food. The tally for those three nights ended up with me losing to Julio’s but beating both The Olive Garden and The Cheesecake Cafe. Woo-hoo!

And now, this weeks stats:

  • Weight: 180.8 lb.
  • Belly inches: 36″
  • BMI (according to halls.md): 25.9 kg/m2

That’s a total of 0.6 lb. lost, 1 inch lost and 0.1 kg/m2 of fat lost in the fourth week. Which puts me at the following totals for the entire diet so far:

  • Weight loss: 4 lb.
  • Inches lost: 2″
  • BMI drop (according to halls.md): 0.6 kg/m2

Once again, even though I lost weight there was only one day that I actually went out and seriously burned some calories—Sunday, there was a street festival and I walked around for about 3–3.5 hours that day and I have the burn to prove it. It looks like the exercise portion of this healthy lifestyle change is going to be one of the more difficult parts to overcome.

Hopefully everyone else had a great week. If you want to find out more about what we’re doing—it’s not just for people losing weight, gainers are welcome too—check out the diet page. There you can also find a nice OPML file to check up on all of us dieters (you can also visit our flickr group).

    Mike, congrats!
You really are doing good! I agree, I get motivated by reading your guys’ progress and about how hard you’re working to lose the weight.

Although I am not blogging about it as much as I did in the beginning because I think I started to bore some peeps, I do it sparingly now. I am working out everyday still. I actually took only 1 day off from working out. And that was last Friday. I have to give my body rest. I am jogging again because the knee healed up and now I”m on fire! I lost one more pound this week. I’m 167 lbs. I started at 172. I’ve lost 5 lbs total. And it’s totally visible now. I can tell in my face and my waist and well… all over really. I feel good. I know that if I keep with this, I will reach my goals eventually.

I too am taking one day at a time. I am not restricting anything. I am just making wiser food choices. Eating less. And I think the fact that I’m not restricting myself or following any “crash” diet to see fast results is helping me stick to this workout and eating regime more.

Thanks for mentioning me and the link Keep up the great work. You’ll see, around this time next year, we’ll be too hot too trot! LOL

ps. You need to add your face to your blog. bawahhahaha

    ;-)

And, I finally found your blog… lol.

Seriously you’re doing great Mike, your daily support has meant a great deal to my motivation and drive, so I thank you.

As for the exercise just find something you enjoy (ie. basketball for me) and do it. You don’t need a lot of exercise per week just short intense bursts.

Good luck and thanks again between you colin and ana, I’m covered, I need to get out and support you guys better.

  3. Mike Says:

@Ana: Absolutely. Next year it will be near impossible to fend off the advances from the hords of fans and groupies we’ll have because we look soooo good. ;^) And yes, I’m working on the whole, picture of me on the blog thing.

@James: Oh shit, I thought you knew. My bad. It’s reassuring to know that we’re all making a difference.

I understand the ease of exercise, it’s just the mental hurdle of getting it done. It seems I have a few mental hurdles I’m about to overcome ;^) If only I had a fat friend that I could go play beach volleyball with…
