The Diet: Week 3 weigh in

June 20th, 2006

This week was much better than last week and even though I didn’t lose as much weight or inches I’m still proud of myself. If you all remember, last week, I experienced a bit of a setback — well, not really a setback, more of a mental setback.

That was mostly due to my flagrant misuse of restaurants and fast food joints. Week three was different. I avoided fast food and was much more conscious of what was going in my mouth.

To be completely honest, I did venture out to Harvey’s last night and I think I hit up McDonald’s once earlier in the week. On the positive side, at Harvey’s I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich instead of my usual greasy burger. At McDonald’s I still had a quarter pounder but instead of grabbing the meat patty that my roommate doesn’t eat — she’s vegetarian and always gets a Big Extra, no meat — I kept it as a single.

I’m still staying away from soda/pop as much as possible. Another thing I need to work on is my urge to actually eat something when meal time comes around. I’m so used to having to chew food that when I have my shakes for breakfast and lunch I keep looking for something extra to snack on. That’s either got to stop or change from being crackers to a salad.

As much as I promised to keep the physical activity up I completely failed at that in week three. It’s been rainy as hell here and that’s no excuse. If I could justify spending $150 on some running shoes and a jacket I would but there are some important opportunities coming up that I need to save every bit of cash I can in order to make them reality.

Enough of the pointless drivel, on to the stats:

  • Weight: 181.4lbs
  • Belly inches: 37″
  • BMI (according to halls.md): 26kg/m2

That’s a total of 1.6 lbs lost, zero inches lost and 0.3 kg/m2 of fat lost in the third week. As I said, an improvement from last week but the physical activity needs to be there for more improvement.

Everyone in the diet is doing extremely well. Keep up the good work and check out our new sponsor, The Diet Channel.

Go on the euro-power diet. Expensive as hell but it works :P

went to europe 2 years ago for 2 months.

    Left with: 215 lbs.
    Returned: 175 lbs.

can’t beat 40 lbs in 2 monts and all I did was eat once a day, walked my face off and drank beer nightly…

good times, but good luck you will get there.

Sounds like a pretty sweet diet. Costly but fun.

Was very fun, but the moral of the story really is losing calories is losing calories. If you burn 2000 more a week or eat 2000 less that’s 2000 gone.

Cutting out pop like you said, fast food and all of that will make a very large difference. A 2 litre has of coke has like 2500 calories or something.

But it’s the large combination of exercise and eating better you will see faster results, at least for me.

But don’t worry there is hope for all, check this:

The trick is keeping it off which i have for over a year now by exercising and eating way better.

    good luck dude, almost there.

Oh yeah i’m vegetarian as well, it really helps to keep away from fast foods places as most don’t have anything to offer (and I used to eat fast food a lot!), but you have to be careful you get all the right nutrients etc.

Good Job mike. I am trying the beer diet. Everything else is killing me!

  6. Mike Says:

That’s quite the change, well done Justin. Some solid advice as well.

My roommate is vegetarian so I understand where you’re coming from. Unfortunately she really knows which fast food places have things that she likes on the menu. It’s all getting better with time though.

Hey Mike, you’re not alone. my husband and I did bad on our diet too. I only lost 1lb and my husband gained one back. LOL

These 2 upcoming weeks will be the hardest for us because they’ll be here on vacation and you know how that is. My Hubby and I already made an agreement that we will have to take the time out to squeeze a workout for at least an hour. They’ll just have to understand. And as far as eating, we’ll have to make wise choices when it comes to those family dinner gatherings.

We gotta be strong. We’ve worked so hard. I don’t want to gain the lbs I’ve lost. That would suck!

Keep doing the good work though. You’re definitely doing good though.
    :-)

Thanks Ana, you lost some inches in key areas though and that’s the important thing. These week has been tough for me with family visiting but more on that later.

We will be strong. I’ve got some things on my mind that are a bit stressful but I’m going to work them out and let you all know about ‘em soon enough.

You’re going to have “BLAH” weeks, what’s important is that you push past them and concentrate on the week ahead!

I agree with Justin that cutting out Cola and French Fries are a very good start. My mother lost about 90 lbs in just over a year and she didn’t really do anything other than give up french fries, cola and she gets up and goes to the walking track every morning.

Everyone talks about these big diets, where you have to pay for books and meals and all this other garbage. My mother is my inspiration… common sense - Eat a little less, move a little more .. it’ll happen.

On an entirely seperate note, I really dig the look of your site :)
