The Diet: Week 15 weigh in
September 12th, 2006
Ah, it’s good to be back after taking over a month off of the diet due to my little moving drama. Not only did I forget to weigh in or not have a scale at my disposal but I also indulged far too often in the practice of eating out and choosing some very questionable foods when I did so. No more I say, time to get back on track and get in the right mindset for succeeding at this thing.
This week is my return to the regular weekly posts for my progress on my diet. It would also seem that exercise — and lots of it — has been the key ingredient that I’ve been missing over the past 15 weeks. Friday night was my first experience playing basketball with Colin and Chris. We only played 21 and horse for about an hour and a half but it still had me running around more than I’m used to.
The weekend was a little less active since it was opening weekend for the NFL and all that but we did hit up the bowling alley on Saturday night for a little rock-a-bowl fun. Surprisingly enough, my arm didn’t seize up after that particular bowling session and at least I tied Colin for the win in the first game.
Yesterday was the big day though. My first real experience of how basketball has been for the boys this summer and man was it an eye opener. It started off slowly with just enough guys for some 3-on-3 play but a couple games later more guys had trickled in and we were playing full court 5-on-5. Due to the fact that it has been years since I played any type of team or organized basketball I did sit out a few games — mostly because when we were shooting to see who would play my shots were questionable at best.
All in all though it was a great experience. Obviously it was the most tiring thing I’ve done in several years but that’s what I get for being a lazy guy. Until last night I didn’t really understand how much playing basketball really affected his weigh ins but now I know exactly what he’s talking about. Sure I’m sore as heck and very glad that I have a “desk job” but the benefits far outweigh the soreness — I just need to get more stretching and warmup in before I start playing in the future.
And now, this weeks stats:
- Weight: 175.0 lb.
- Belly inches: ?? — I really need to get a tape measure
- BMI (according to halls.md): 24.4 kg/m2
That’s a total of 3 lbs. lost and 1.1 kg/m2 of fat lost since my last check in for week ten.
Here are the grand totals for the entire diet so far:
- Weight loss: 9.4 lb.
- Inches lost: 2″ or more, I really need to measure this
- BMI drop (according to halls.md): 2.1 kg/m2

Good job with the b-ball playing. I was surprised how well you did for not playing in so long.
You’ll need to keep up the playing, especially with the United States condiment portions.

You’ve got that right on the condiment portions. It’s crazy how much mayo is added even when you ask for light mayo.
