This zen thought was said during a conversation about relationship length. After asking about quantifying what counts as a relationship I expected a typical “about two weeks” or “after you’ve been introduced to the friend circle” type of response. The actual response was much more.

“I think relationships are the ones that feel like relationships.”

It is definitely refreshing to see this point of view when most people are concerned with metrics and stats.

Making Progress

August 22nd, 2008

After forcing myself, and being encouraged by others, I’m proud to report that I’ve successfully made it to the gym 8 out of 11 times in the last two weeks. I’d say this is a pretty good start on this portion of my yo-yo trip to a healthier lifestyle.

In case you’re curious, here’s a short list of positive changes/steps I’ve taken so far:

  • Working out 6 times/week (3 days of weights, 3 days of cardio)
  • Eating smaller meals but eating more often (shooting for 6 small meals a day)
  • Taking probiotics to aid digestion and help clean out the gunk
  • Eating more vegetables, fish, and chicken (I even bought a veggie steamer!)
  • Doing my best to get to bed before midnight

I still haven’t taken any metrics so I can’t tell how much physical progress I’ve made so far but that’s the next step. Mentally I’m feeling much better. I have more energy and I only have muscle soreness about 4 days a week. :)

Dear Netflix Direct Marketing Dept.,

The HD dilemma

February 21st, 2008

I was an early adopter, relatively speaking. Everything was looking good, then I got burned. Big time. Even though I should have known better, I jumped on the HD-DVD bandwagon just a little too soon. Choosing HD-DVD isn’t something I regret, too much, because it was such a great deal at the time — usually being the key to winning these types of battles. Now that all is basically said and done, with Toshiba dropping HD-DVD production, I’m left with a hard choice, what do I do for my HD needs? Read the rest of this entry »

My new toy and a call for help.

February 20th, 2008

For the past few weeks I’ve been very good about how I’m spending my money. I haven’t made any superfluous purchases of neat-o gadgets or doodads. This is a good thing right?

Well, as it turns out it’s a great thing during those periods when I don’t buy anything I don’t need. Generally it tends to go bad after a month or so though — hence the purpose of this post. My gadget lust has been building up for quite a while now and something had to give. Disregarding all logic and common sense, I recklessly went to Best Buy last weekend and picked up a sweet new toy for myself. Here it is in all it’s glowing glory. Read the rest of this entry »
