Drafted into the Big Leagues

September 29th, 2005

I’m not sure how many people read this site or how many of the people that do read this site read theübergeeks.net but there was a bit of an announcement made there yesterday.

Yes, it’s true, I am now one of the überboys. The übersquad, as I like to call them, is a terrific group of guys and girls, namely, Colin D. Devroe, Chris Fehnel, and myself. Don’t ask me who the girl is because it’s a long story and I’m sure Colin wouldn’t be pleased if I told everyone ;^)

With that all said and done I’m up to three blogs, one column (sort of), and entirely not enough time in the day. Of course I’m still going to be posting here and on the Screenflicker Developments blog. Be sure to check out theübergeeks.net and add it to your RSS feed reader.

The other added benefit of being an Übergeek? I’m now part of the 9rules network. Woohoo!

It’s All About the Style

September 27th, 2005

I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m a geek. I’m a nerd, a dork, a dweeb, whatever. That’s me and if you don’t like it get lost. A lot of my fellow geeks are style challenged, hell, I’m pretty style stupid myself but I’m working on it. This may come from our many hours spent indoors at our computers and geeking out. In fact, I’m positive that’s where it comes from.

Often geeks are a little less personable than most people so we stick with our own and talk about Star Wars, Star Trek, and all sorts of various sci-fi or computer related things. Fashion and style doesn’t tend to be the topic of choice in a geek gathering.

That was until now. b5 Media has started a blog called SheKnowsBest, a blog about style for men. It’s a new kid on the block as far as blogs go but don’t underestimate where this blog will go.

As I mentioned, us geeks do geeky things like programming, computer games, and blog reading. What better way to teach geeks about fashion, style, and overall cleanliness than put it into blog form. Genius. Watch out world, you’re about to see a lot more good looking, well kept geeks running to the computer store soon.

Gators Kicking Ass

September 24th, 2005

I’ve finally managed to find a televised Gator game on CBS. This is something I’ve been waiting for all season and I’m glad it’s finally happened. The Gators are pummeling Kentucky and it’s great!!

Even though the Gator coach mentioned before the game they need to work on the offense it’s looking like things are coming together. At this time FLA is winning 49-7 and there is 1:19 left in the second quarter.

Go Gators!!

UPDATE: After a strong comeback by Kentucky where they gained an unchallenged 21 points in the 3rd and 4th quarters the Gators maintained the lead (49-28) and added another digit to the win column.

This sets up what I’m sure will be a great game against likewise undefeated Alabama. I’m looking forward to turning my TV on Oct. 1st to find the channel showing that match up.

Pissed Off At PHP

September 20th, 2005

So, today I wake up all happy and ready for some work. Things are going well, I’ve finished reading my blogs, checked my email, everything is in order for a good day.

Then a friend/client asks for their site to be updated. I make the update only to find that something has killed my upload form on that site. After futzing around with it for well over 4 hours and getting nowhere I make a decision that may bite me in the ass later. An hour after that things are working again.

Fast forward an hour or two when I decide to check up on another form. This time a contact form that was an experiment in functions for me. It took me waaaay to long to figure out how to get it to work the first time only to realize that I had not actually gotten it to work. The form was giving out the proper errors if the required fields were not filled out but it would not send the email if the form was filled out correctly. After another 3 hours of messing around I’m still no better off than I was before. Read the rest of this entry »

I happily celebrated my birthday this week with a couple of my closest friends. We had an amazing time hanging out with each other and enjoying good music. Something that we all need to do a lot more of, especially with each other.

That was during the week though. Now that the weekend has arrived it’s time for the family to make the 3 hour drive from Medicine Hat to celebrate with me. I’m quite shocked actually. Last year it ended up being my parents and my last grandparent that stopped by. It was a quick visit and they had to be off before it got too dark on the roads. This year my brother will also be joining us and they plan on staying overnight. Read the rest of this entry »
